Maybe I should have named my blog Potpourri or Pastiche or simply a Savory Stew because I aim to throw a lot of different things into the pot, mostly about reading, writing and art, but many other things, too, because I’ve lived a long time and have a lot of interests. I also will include here thoughts of others I come upon who share my loves. Including those of you who care to share your thoughts and impressions.
Bits & Pieces-A blog about reading, writing, art and more
posted by Ed Farber on September 5, 2012

My blog will be devoted mostly to bits and pieces about art and writing, because in my case they are my two long-time loves (not to worry--my wife knows about them and even approves.) But I’ve lived a long time and have a lot of other interests so I’ll also include comments on a wide variety of subjects, especially books and reading. Maybe I should have named my blog, Potpourri or Pastiche or simply a Savory Stew because I aim to throw a lot of different things into the pot.  I also will include here thoughts of others I come upon who share my loves. Including those of you who care to share your thoughts and impressions.

Since my blog is on my website which is mainly devoted to art and writing, you can learn a lot about me by looking it over. Some statistics to get us started: Age 80, birthday in March; lifelong resident of St. Louis, MO.;  attended Blewett High School (subsequently Soldan-Blewett and now just Soldan), Harris Junior College, Washington University and the University of Missouri, Columbia, where I earned undergraduate degrees in Journalism and Liberal Arts (English), and a Masters degree; spent two years in the USAF as a Lieutenant (after going through the ROTC program) and left  the Air Force reserve with the rank of Captain. Worked in various jobs in the advertising field including company advertising manager, creative copywriter, creative director and finally opened my own agency, Farber-Fullbright, Inc. in St. Louis where I toiled until retirement. Since retirement, I’ve devoted my time to the activities I mentioned in the first paragraph, dividing my time between art (mostly painting,) teaching art and writing.

As for art, this is not a place where you will find esoteric discussions about the history or the place of art and literature in society (unless I find something interesting to share.) If that is what you seek, I’m sure there will be much more erudite blogs covering such subjects. No, I plan to write about my experiences doing both art and writing, and what some others are doing, reading books, and about life in general. Nothing too serious since I plan to have fun doing this.

In the next blog coming very soon, I’ll talk about me becoming the author of a book, how and why it came about. Hope you’ll come back.
